My husband and I built an airplane, and we definitely use more fuel when we load the plane with more "stuff."

OTOH, I'm sure there are other factors that are even *more* important to the total consumption of fuel than Americans' weight. (c: Trucking increased amounts of consumer goods to support our increased population size would have to be factored in as well (just as one example). I'm not a traffic management specialist, but I would expect that decreased family size probably balances individual weight gains. I don't weigh "a 10 year old child" more than my 1960s counterpart. GRIN. Since there are never more than four of us in a vehicle, and all four grandparents' families would have routinely hauled 8 or 10 people in a vehicle, the weight was probably similar. LOL!
A statistician is someone who is skilled at drawing a precise line from an unwarranted assumption to a foregone conclusion.

I didn't see your post before I repeated it. :?
I do a more restricted Program to maintain my weight & health. I have been McDougalling for about 30 years, with a long transition, until I finally accepted this lifestyle, stayed on Program and reached my goal back in 2006.

You see it in the movies all the time, they are in the air looking for things to throw out of the plane to make it lighter so they have enough fuel to get to their destination

Eating less, driving less and choosing more active means of transportation would reduce gas consumption, and also help reverse rising obesity rates, he said.
Like that is going to happen  I say raise the insurance rates of those unhealthy drivers. They are more apt to drop their milkshake, burger or fries, become distracted and cause an accident !!! :-P
All the Best,
