Avatar image size -- max size too restrictive

Postby darad » Mon Oct 04, 2021 1:38 pm

Why is the Avatar image size so ridiculously small? Always seems nearly
impossible to reduce image size to 7.8 KB. Should allow 200x200 and 100 KB

Maximum allowed dimensions; width: 100 pixels, height: 100 pixels, file size: 7.81 KiB

I've been trying to change the avatar, and cannot reduce file size that much,
despite being conversant with image editing software tools. Tried PNG, JPG,
GIF, lowest resolution with 100 pixel height, and still > 8KB.

Finally got image to 7KB. Then "deleted" existing Avatar and submit.

Uploaded image to:
https://imgur.com/D4GHo1i
and to
https://ibb.co/N6hz18C

Entered URL location for the image. But get the following message for both URL.
"The URL you specified is invalid."

Am I missing something? We cannot simply "upload" the *.jpg, *.png, or *gif file?

Uploaded image to:
https://pasteboard.co/xiEHYL3nz9CD.jpg i.e. a real *.jpg file suffix!

Then submitted new URL location for image file, resulting in :
"It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image."

Edited *.jpg file in Adobe Elements to determine: width: 72, height: 100

Then re-submitted URL location with 72x100 pixel size
No errors spewed forth ... but User Avatar does not appear.

Also tried reducing to 256 colors and to 6 KB size via https://www.imgonline.com.ua/
https://pasteboard.co/kqrfB6qlk5ot.jpg to no avail

TOTALLY STUCK! Can a software wizard assist? Well over an hour playing with this...
Is there an ideal image hosting site to upload the avatar file?
Previously, I used tinypic.com to host the tiny image, but site is no more.

Thanks Jim,

I'd tried imgbb.com before, but used the "viewer links" provided:
https://ibb.co/BfxCPX0 (no png or jpg file suffix!)

This time, I right-clicked the image on above web page, to "Open Image in New tab", to show just the image
https://i.ibb.co/fX5xShj/Darryl-Oct-2021-blue-256.jpg

It worked! Thanks.

No matter what I do I cannot upload an updated picture. There is no "upload" button and when I try to link to a tiny picture I get "invalid link" notes.

No picture-ly yours,

Yippee! I got it to work. Of course, I'll never remember what I did if I need to update it again. LOL

You need to reduce the photo/picture resolution before reducing pixel size.
A high resolution photo/picture will not reduce well in size as much as a low resolution photo.
