f1jim + landog...any Sumo's yet?

Postby Mom+Me » Mon Jan 17, 2022 3:55 pm

Hey f1jim + landog,

This time of year the Sumo's are out and I was looking for your usual annual banter about your favorite seasonal fruit! :-D :-D You two always crack me up, and each time I see or hear about Sumo's, I think of you, my fellow McDougaller's!

Nothing in my area yet.
I am jealous of you if you can get them.
Daydream, what area are you in?
If anyone else sees them available please report it here.
Might be time for a road trip.

f1jim, I'm in Los Angeles county. I've bought Sumos at Whole Foods market and also at Ralphs.

I just walked into Safeway here in Pacifica and found Sumo's. $399 a pound but dang are they good!
It's going to be an expensive few months!

I haven't ever tried them, but now I'm curious. I found a grocery near me that has them by the box (about 10) for $14.99. Now I just need to wait for the next round of snowstorms to move past us.

I would be careful......They are highly addicting and there is no going back once you've tried them.
They are wonderful. I wait all year for them.

Sorry, I've been lax this year!
This season we had our earliest Sumos ever, and have been enjoying them for a couple of weeks now.

I could have been taunting f1jim since Jan 4th.

Thanks for this reminder, debknott!

I bought a bag of blood oranges and once again, while thrilled with their color, thought they were less tasty than the classic naval oranges. Cara cara's next trip! :D

ch47gunnergirl, hope you've been able to dig out by now! :D Unfortunately it is not cost prohibitive for me to get more than a few each year, but if I could get 10 for $15, I would be eating more of them! Of course always inspect the fruit before you buy them, but that's a great deal. Hope you enjoy this "sacred"--lol--fruit, too.

landog, so glad you've been enjoying for that long already!

Yes, you did get lax this year (lol), or maybe you're just being kinder to Jim this year...or maybe you've been too busy enjoying Sumos.

Thanks for the annual Sumo good-natured banter...it's officially January. ;-)
