I have a lot to be thankful for. Two years ago at Thanksgiving, I started my journey on a whole food, plant based diet. I had battled weight problems since I was a child and vowed that I was done with dieting. After watching Forks Over Knives on Netflix, I was convinced that this was how I needed to eat. After listening to Dr. John Mcdougall on FOK, I knew a starch based diet with added fruits and vegetables, and no oil, was right for me.
I lost 50lbs the first year, then another 10 over the 2nd year. I feel so much better. My hips, knees and heels no longer ache like they used to. I was having menopausal symptoms such as anxiety, depression and hot flashes that were overwhelming me. I still have these symptoms, only a fraction of what they were before. I no longer feel like I need to take medication for it. It is amazing what a change in diet can do. Also, my cholesterol and blood pressure dropped significantly.
I have more energy now and actually feel like exercising. My daughters have encouraged me to take up running, something that I loved in high school. So I have started jogging and have taken part in some 5k runs. I hope to work my way up to longer runs.
Anyone that has health and weight problems should give the starch based solution a try. Thank you Dr Mcdougall.
