Ongoing Questions

Postby hallelujah » Wed Apr 08, 2020 10:28 am

Good morning!

1 year in and always thinking of another question!

1. Is Beer Bread ok? No oil. Beer serves as yeast.Alcohol cooks off
2. Do oils show up in Cholesterol test? Or only animal products
3. Sparkling mineral water ok?
4. Almond Milk or Rice Milk on oatmeal every day. Folks mostly seem to talk about Almond milk
5. Best salt to use-kosher/pink/sea salt?

Thanks again for all your help!

As long as there is no added oil and is made with whole grain flour, yep. Even the occasional glass of beer is allowed. In one of the McDougall Made Easy videos Dr. McDougall is shown having a beer with his enchiladas lunch.

2. Do oils show up in Cholesterol test? Or only animal products

I don't think so, but they *do* still clog your arteries and add to your body's fat stores.

3. Sparkling mineral water ok?

Yes

4. Almond Milk or Rice Milk on oatmeal every day. Folks mostly seem to talk about Almond milk

Back in the old days when Dr. McD first started writing his books, the only non-dairy milk in stores was soy milk, and that's why you see that noted in the books. As time has gone on, more and more plant based milks have appeared on the market. There are also videos of Mary McDougall making cashew milk and walnut sauce. As long as there are no added oils (Like Rice Dream brand rice milk) or other added fats, like lecithin, it's allowed.

5. Best salt to use-kosher/pink/sea salt?

I don't think Dr. McD has any preference. Just be sure to use whatever you prefer sparingly at the table and not in cooking.
