GI transit time from mouth to defecation

Postby JOJO1947 » Tue Apr 20, 2021 6:18 am

Hi Jeff, . I do know that the more fiber in the diet, the shorter the GI transit time

I've checked my transit time twice and both times it was approximately 17 hours. Have you seen the average transit times for those of us eating very low fat whole foods plant based?

I've read that if transit time is less than 12 hours, then that is too short a time for all nutrients to be absorbed. Have you any information on that?

Thanks, JoAnn

Transit time can vary greatly, even in regard to what is “normal/average” because of other issues (ie, diet, fiber, water).

Here is a decent overview

It is rare that I have ever seen this be an issue.
