De Cecco whole wheat spaghetti

Postby seangill » Sat Jul 30, 2022 8:54 pm

Jeff,

De Cecco's spaghetti no. 12 lists "whole wheat" in large letters on the front of the box. The ingredients are: wholemeal durum wheat semolina, niacin, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid. I have never seen a 100% whole grain product that was enriched with vitamins so it made me suspicious that they are refining it in some way, such as removing the bran layer.

I emailed the company over 1 week ago but never got a response.

Any idea if they are being deceptive? What possible reason could they have for enriching a supposedly 100% whole grain product?

Thank you very much for your expertise.
