Hi Jeff,
Came across this advice in the May 2005 Newsletter. I am copying McDougall's exact words.
"FIGURING PERCENT OF CALORIES
A little simple math will help you determine how much fat, protein, and carbohydrate is in a labeled food or packaged product.
Percent fat is calculated by multiplying the number of grams of fat by 9 calories per gram, dividing the answer (the number of calories of fat) by the total calories, then multiplying by 100%. Your goal is less than 10 % fat per meal.
McDougall goes on with protein and carbs, but several of us were very surprised at the "less than 10% calories from Fat PER MEAL." Given that oatmeal is 14% fat, my breakfast of oatmeal with 1Tbsp ground flax and some berries and greens ends up at 18% fat. And yet my total for the day is 8-9% fat. Do you ever recall McDougall rescinding that "per meal" advice?
Thanks. JoAnn
