oil on skin

Postby carolynn » Mon Apr 07, 2008 3:34 pm

Hello Jeff,
Here is my silly question for today.
I know that some medications are administered by transdermal patch. So, is oil applied to the skin to moisturize/massage absorbed into the bloodstream instead of remaining just skin deep?
Thanks for the education.

Hi Carolyn

Yes, oil applied to the skin can be absorbed. While I don't think it is a major issue for most people, I gave an example in one of the threads on this, on a study where they actually treated an EFA deficiency in an infant by applying oil to their skin.

Thank you,
Sorry to have put an already answered question---hadn't read the other posts. I gather that on the whole, the moisturizer will not create a health problem.
Thanks again.
