Jeff, are there any dietary specifics for arthritis, as in recommended to consume foods or to avoid consuming within the constructs of the McDougall Program? Kathy

Hi Kathy,

There are around 25 published studies showing how a vegetarian diet, like the McDougall diet is very effective for arthtritis. Dr Mcd has a whole section on this website dedicated to that information.

Eliminating dairy products is critical.

Within the constructs of the McDougall program, it may be important for some to also eliminate gluten and follow strict adherence to the recommendations for fat, oils and maybe some other richer foods. I would recommend applying the principles of the maximum weight loss program first.

Not good (for my) arthritis: Seeds of all kinds

Postby Burgess » Sun Apr 13, 2008 5:24 am

I have a particular medical problem ("leaky gut"). For me, seeds of any kind are a factor in -itis problems: beans, peas, grains, nuts, spices from seeds, and other seeds such as flax and sunflower. (I also avoid fruit packed with seeds, such as figs and tomatoes.) I do not obsess about getting a few seeds here and there; the problem is concentrated doses, but I don't spend time picking seeds out of bananas!

This may apply only to me.
