veggie washes..

Postby Elaine » Tue Oct 31, 2006 3:32 pm

Hello everyone!
I have a quick question. What are your thoughts or opinions on these washes.
I don't live in a very big area and it's very hard to get organic produce in the winter. The health food store 'near me' is 35 miles and tiny!!!
Thanks everyone!

I wash them with water or castile & water

I've never used the washes, I fill a large bowl with water and thoroughly shake out lettuce leaves and vegetables individually in the water, then put them in a strainer to dry. It's amazing how much more dirt you get out that way! If a cucumber or other vegetable seems oily or pesticide laden, I wash it with a mild castile soap, rinse it off, then peel. I've never noticed a soap taste. For potatoes, if we plan to eat the skin, I either buy organic or use one of those rough green scouring cloths sold in the grocery stores, dedicated to potato use.
