Is coconut sugar compliant?

Postby iamcdb » Sun Aug 08, 2021 3:35 am

I did some research on coconut sugar which I have a lot of. It is boiled down sap from the coconut palm tree just as maple syrup is the boiled down sap from the maple tree. Am I right in thinking this is compliant then?

The regular McDougall program “allows” for the limited use of added sugar as a condiment. We prefer you to add it at the table by sprinkling it on top of the food.

The type of sugar, maple syrup, sugar, agave, brown sugar etc, is less relevant, natural or not. What matters most is the amount. The daily upper limit allowed is up to 5% of calories which for someone consuming 2000 calories is 100 calories, which is 2 tbsp. Fruit juice & fruit juice concentrate count as added sugars.
