This morning's blood pressure readings:

118 over 81
121 over 74
108 over 74

Yesterday afternoon there was a slight break in the rain. So, I was able to do my walk jog. This time I did a quarter mile walk for a warm up followed by 4 iterations of 0.55 miles jogging and 0.45 miles walking.

0.25 mile walk at 17:13 pace
0.55 mile jog at 12:31 pace, 0.45 mile walk at 16:55 pace
0.55 mile jog at 12:21 pace, 0.45 mile walk at 17:16 pace
0.55 mile jog at 12:07 pace, 0.45 mile walk at 17:03 pace
0.55 mile jog at 12:40 pace, 0.45 mile walk at 12:12 pace
0.35 mile walk at 17:03 pace

Overall -> 4.6 miles at 14:52 pace

I made some spanish rice today. I used one can of Rotel no salt added tomatoes and a 26 can of no salt added diced tomatoes with 2 cups of rice, 1 package of chopped frozen bell peppers/onions and 1 package of chopped frozen carrots, celery and onions. I also added some garlic powder, cumin, thyme, rosemary, sage and lots of water.

I think next time I will omit that Rotel tomatoes because they add too much heat/spice. If I want some heat I can add red pepper flakes. But my wife and I enjoyed the dish, despite the fact that it was a bit on the spicy side.

This morning's blood pressure readings were:

107 over 80
118 over 76
116 over 76

Yesterday afternoon I did my walk-jog workout. I warmed up with a quarter mile walk. Then I did 4 iterations of 0.6 mile jog and 0.4 mile walk. Then I walked 0.11 more miles to complete a workout that lasted 1 hour, 1 minute and 41 seconds and covered 4.36 miles. An overall pace of 14:09 minutes per mile.

Yesterday I made split pea and potato soup with frozen carrots, celery and onion and various spices. I cooked the split peas for over 30 minutes, but they still were not as soft as I had hoped for. Eventually I gave up and just started eating the soup. My wife liked it. So, it was a success. But I think I will cook the split peas for an hour next time, to make sure they get really soft and mushy.

Yesterday afternoon I did my walk-jog, a quarter mile 0.25 walk followed by 4 iterations of 0.65 mile jog/0.35 mile walk and then a 0.72 walk. It was an hour, six minutes 35 seconds and covered 4.62 miles, a 14:24 minute per mile pace.

I ate my split pea soup, some of my spanish rice and some of my bean and cabbage soup for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

A successful day.

So, I try to set up an appointment with my primary care physician about hypertension, but he says he thinks the kidney transplant team should deal with it. So, I find a new primary care physician...

Got this far in your story and got a good chuckle from this. I would've done the same...now to read on!

I guess I'm pretty stubborn. :)

My morning blood pressure numbers:

125 over 80
108 over 80
117 over 78

Yesterday was the first day in over a week that I did not exercise. I will make sure I get some exercise this afternoon. It was so windy that it made me feel like skipping the daily workout.

I ate split pea soup and some spanish rice and a sweet potato yesterday. I plan on making some more soup this weekend and maybe some more air fried french fries.

I hear you, the wind was crazy! The sunshine is so promising, but those cold gusts make me want to crawl right back on the couch with the electric blanket which is the ultimate trap. I look forward to a little warmer so I can stop dragging the bike over to the sunny window, cracking it open, and launching into the days pedal and pretend session.

Yesterday was better. I did get my one hour of walking and jogging yesterday. So, that was good. But warmer weather awaits ! :)

This morning's blood pressure readings:

113 over 78
115 over 79
113 over 77

Yesterday I did my walk-jog workout. According to my Garmin Forerunner 235 watch I covered 4.49 miles in 1:03:38. That's an average pace of 14:11. The Garmin watch says I burned 437 calories. I figure one has to add in a plus or minus 100 calories. But maybe it's a good guess.

I made soup with my Instant Pot yesterday after I ate up all of my split pea soup from a few days ago. I tossed in 1 and one half cups of brown rice, 10 cups of water, 2 canned of no salt added diced tomatoes, 1 package of chopped frozen onion, carrots and celery, 1 package of frozen onions and bell peppers, 1 package of frozen broccoli and cauliflower and a hefty amount of Mrs Dash Garlic and Herb.

I set the timer for 20 minutes, which I think was a mistake because the rice and other vegetables were too mushy for my taste. The Instant Pot default for soups is 30 minutes and the default for rice is 12 minutes. I chose somewhere in between with 20 minutes. But next time I might go for 8 minutes or 12 minutes. It's still good soup and I like my rice soft. Just not so mushy.

Better luck next time.

I weighed myself this morning. My previous 2 weigh ins were 174 pounds on Wednesday March 10 and 176 pounds on Saturday March 13. So, today is Saturday March 20 and I weighed 170.5 pounds.

My BMI is finally in a normal range at 24.7. When I was a running junkie, constantly training to be faster at the next half marathon I usually weighed around 155 pounds. I don't know if I could get back to 155 pounds while maintaining my more moderate exercise program. But we'll see. Perhaps with use of more focus on calorie density I could lose a few more pounds.

My blood pressure readings this morning were:

105 over 74
112 over 75
115 over 73

Yesterday I did my walk-jog exercise. A quarter mile warm up followed by 4 iterations of 0.7 mile jog and 0.3 mile walk. My exercise ended up being 1:01:31.6 in time, covering 4.45 miles, an average pace of 13:50.

Yesterday I roughly followed the Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease cookbook (and YouTube video) and made Sweet Potato, Beans and Rice quesadillas with green onion, cilantro and steamed collard greens. They were good once I added some Mrs Dash to the mix. I used corn tortillas instead of wheat tortillas because I couldn't find any wheat tortillas at the grocery store that didn't have oil in them. Very good and very filling.

This morning's blood pressure readings were:

113 over 78
114 over 75
109 over 74

Yesterday I did my walk-jog workout. It lasted 1:05:07 and I covered 4.53 miles, an average pace of 14:22 minutes per mile. I ate my leftover soup that I made in the Instant Pot a few days ago. We also went out for Thai food, which put me a little off plan because I know that there was oil in my vegetable and noodle dish. This is why I try to avoid restaurants. But I realize that I could have simply ordered a side of steamed vegetables and a side of steamed rice. I will do that next time.

This morning's blood pressure readings were:

113 over 73
109 over 75
116 over 77

I did my walk-jog exercise. It lasted 1 hour and covered a distance of 4.17 miles, a pace of 14:24 minutes per mile.

For breakfast I made oatmeal with ground flax seed, collard greens, no salt added diced tomatoes, Mrs. Dash Original spice blend and 3 cups of water. I know it sounds bizarre. But it's pretty good and it allows me to get some leafy greens in my diet first thing in the morning.

For lunch I had the rest of my leftover soup made in the Instant Pot and a large salad. For dinner I had veggie lasagna with lots of zucchini and basil.

This morning's blood pressure readings were:

118 over 77
112 over 74
111 over 73

Yesterday I did my walk-jog exercise, a quarter mile warm up followed by 4 iterations of 0.7 mile jog and 0.3 mile walk.

The total workout lasted 1 hour, 4 minutes and 42 seconds (according to my Garmin Forerunner 235) and I covered 4.6 miles. According to the Garmin Forerunner I burned 404 calories during the workout. I would add a plus/minus factor of about 100 or so calories to that estimate.

Yesterday I ate oats, collard greens, no salt added diced tomatoes, ground flax seed and water, my version of oatmeal, for breakfast. I had a sweet potato, rice and beans quesadilla later and some red beans and rice with vegetables for dinner.

It was a great day.
