I'm taller now? I mean, I'm taller now!

I wasn't quite sure where to post this.

When I was a young teen, I was 5'2" Then I went down to 5'1.5" (at the same time some scoliosis was found). I stayed the latter height through the time I was going in for regular checkups, my mid-30s.

Now, I'm 53 and menopausal. With a mother with osteoporosis who has shrunk a few inches, this morning I thought I would measure myself. I'm a tad over 5'2" again. Woo Hoo -- my BMI just went down with no pain at all!

I have been exercising (including yoga) and following some exercises/advice re: posture and proper alignment in books by Egoscue. And eating McDougall for over 6 years ...

So, not only isn't my lack of dairy and meat not causing osteoporosis, if anything, it looks like I'm going the other direction.

I wonder if I can manage to soar to the heights of 5'3" someday

Hey, if you've been exercising and eating McDougall for 6 years, you must've been building new bone, maybe, along the way????

Pilates also does the same thing, you are stretching your spine, which becomes compressed as we grow older. This is what an instructor told me.

Yoga made me grow an inch! I'm 47 and had been 5'10" and about a quarter inch since junior high. Now I'm 5'11" in my bare feet.

I really didn't want to be taller, but I guess it's a good sign!

I forgot to recalculate my BMI, heh heh.

I reached my full height of 5' 5 & 3/4" at age 13. Most of my life, when asked my height, I always answered 5-6!

I need to re-measure. Maybe I AM.

That's what my yoga instructor tells me, anyway! It happened to her own mother.
