High blood sugar on low fat whole food plant based diet

Postby Hamrthroer » Sat Apr 29, 2023 6:23 pm

No offense but I would like a reply from a credentialed individual. I’ve been doing this for far too long for fan based opinions.

I’ve been on a plant based diet for going on 25 years. About a year ago I had begun having what I called “passing out episodes”. I had been following the McDougall program for approximately 3+ years. I was diagnosed with pre diabetes.

In desperation I tried a vegan ketogenic diet for three months and my A1C dropped to 5.5. But it goes against everything I’ve come to understand about the mechanisms behind insulin sensitivity, Intramyocellular lipids, etc.

I tried a few meals such as a grain bowl with no added sugars, fats, etc. just a plan baked sweet potato with some boiled squash on the side. My BG shot up to 148 2 hours post prandial. I checked it twice.
My ratios:
89 carb
7 protein
5 fat

I would sincerely appreciate any direction from a qualified provider.

You should post this on Jeff Novick's board.

Are you overweight? What was your A1C before trying the vegan keto diet? How are all your other health biomarkers?
