All, low fat, plant based whole foods are good for reversing heart disease and every other chronic disease. Its never about one food. Beans are a great starch though tend to be higher in protein and calorie density than other plant based foods. They are limited in this program and definitely not a requirement.
But really, for me, I'm just neither a fan of beans (I dont care for their taste generally) and I also do try to restrict somewhat my protein intake as I have only a single kidney (I donated one to my sister due to her T1D) and I suffered from chronic kidney issues as well (which you can see from my numbers which showed tremendous improvements and normalization of kidney function).
Now I do eat beans on rare occasion and when I do, I prefer the most, frozen edemame lightly heated in a microwave, eaten plain. I also enjoy smashed up pinto beans as well and a good red lentil soup or chickpea hummus.
So for me, beans are a personal issue as well as one of taste.
For others, eat away as per the program
