No gallbladder--fasting?

Postby Gwen » Mon Mar 22, 2021 11:32 am

Hello all,
Is it OK to fast for 16-18 hours a day without a gallbladder? There is constant dripping of bile from the liver, so will fasting make the intestines vulnerable to damage from that?
Thanks, Gwen

16-18 hours is not much more than a normal night fast between 5-6pm dinner and 8-9am breakfast. I suspect if it was an issue, your surgeon would have warned you, and you could easily find out online. My mother, as well as her mother, have both had gallbladders removed, and I have never heard of the concern before.

Gallbladder disease is unfortunately very common. I have also listened to podcast interviews with Dr Goldhammer of True North Health Center about extended water only fasts, and have never heard an issue with gallbladders or lack thereof.
